You should already have passed (or are expecting to pass after recently taking) ABRSM or Trinity Grade 6 Music Theory before joining this course.

The exam consists of:
- Adding figured bass symbols to a melody and bass line
- Expanding a given harmonic outline with melodic decoration (chorale or keyboard piece)
- Composing an 8-bar melody for a solo instrument or writing a solo melody to fit a given piano accompaniment
- General theory questions based on a score for a keyboard instrument or small ensemble
- General theory questions based on a score for a larger ensemble such as an orchestra

- → I graduated with a degree in music, (specialising in musicology), from the University of Leeds in 1995.
- → I hold both diplomas in music theory from Trinity College London AmusTCL (distinction) and LmusTCL.
- → I also hold Grade 8 Composition (Distinction) from LCM.
- → I teach woodwind and piano (and theory!) in South Cambridgeshire as a private and visiting music teacher, and also in a volunteer role at the local music workshop.

Thank you for running this site and for your excellent published materials. Although I have two music degrees, they are performance related and some of the theory was never [needed to be] covered. As a challenge with a colleague , we decided to take ABRSM G7, G8 and the theory diploma with Trinity. Our results for stage 1 of our project came through this morning and I am pleased to report with the help of your materials, I gained 94 marks in grade 7 theory.
